In the fall of 1993, I began work on a series of images with the 8 X 20 camera that was later to become a hand-made, limited-edition book. The book was set in letter press type and bound accordion-style, in luxurious silk, by one of the oldest book binding families still remaining in Kyoto.

Originally planned as a single volume, the book grew to become a set, one with vertical images and one horizontal. In this way, I was able to express in quotations and haiku the different, and yet similar, approaches to creating a work of art from western and Japanese viewpoints.

The best way to get a sense of the book and to follow along with the story line is to view the images in the order in which they are arranged.
